Aloha. Tonight I watched the planet Venus shine her bright, beautiful light in the western sky over a new outbreak of fresh lava. What a sight!
I just returned to Hilo from a sunset visit with friends near Kehena Beach in Puna, about one hours drive (37 miles) from town.
What a neighborhood! It's where I used to own a beautiful piece of property until recently. Monkeypod trees, ocean view, deep soil ... Puna Palisades...walk to the best beach on the island where dolphin and whales come close to the shore near swimmers and those enjoying the black sand beach.
And the active lava flow is right down the street.
As I was leaving my old neighborhood I saw that the lava was flowing again. Venus was especially bright in the dark night sky shining right over the new flow! I stopped my truck and enjoyed the sight. Venus over lava flow. Amazing.
